jessica loving's work focuses on the quiet elegance of the naked line. This basic figure can be found in the salient boundary between earth and sky, in the silhouette of a bare tree limb...in the structure and gesture of the human figure. the simplicity of the line inspires her; in its barest and truest form, it speaks so much. it is strong yet singular...poetic yet silent...often hidden yet somehow carries the weight of everything we know.
taking the quiet residual principles of neoplasticism, she has played with the vertical and horizontal spaces and how they relate to eachother in a very elemental way. skeletal structures are richly wrapped in space creating solid planes that intersect and dance together. she uses complex colors that are neither red nor green, but often both. her paintings are formed by layering color on top of color, layer of material upon layer...and then in some areas, allowing that inner nakedness to be revealed.
